What is a lash lift? Is it safe?

A lash lift is essentially a lash perm. Its purpose is to enhance your natural lashes, giving them a mascara effect.

Although it's a gorgeous procedure, it's not safe for humans because it has cancer-causing chemicals.

The goal of a lash lift is to give your lashes a longer and fuller appearance.

Honestly, when you finish this article you should be thinking "I don't want a lash lift anywhere near me".

At Rich Lash, we don't perform lash lifts and here's why.

Most, if not all, lash lifts contain butylated hydroxyanisole. The International Agency for Research on Cancer classifies BHA as a possible human carcinogen.

Butylated Hydroxyanisole

The same chemical that is used to give your eyelashes a more curly or straight look, is the same chemical used in hair perm. This chemical alters how hormones interact in the body.

There are many side effects to lash lifts besides lash curling.

  • The lash lift may not work
  • Under-curled lashes
  • Lashes may be over-curled
  • Skin irritation
  • Allergic reactions
  • Redness
  • Puffy eyes
  • Flaking skin
  • Watery or dry eyes
  • Itching
  • Lashes can become brittle and fragile
  • Damage to your cornea

Lash lifts are not considered safe. They may look good, but so many potential things can go wrong, making it not worth the risk.

Eyelash extensions are a safe alternative to lash lifts. Not only can you get better results, but your lashes can last much longer with proper maintenance.
